We Advocate for Effective Rehabilitation of Convicted Inmates

Inmates Reformation and Rehabilitation Pathways (IRRP) is a non-governmental organization registered in Nigeria. It advocates for effective rehabilitation of convicted inmates based on international best practices. It also advocates that inmates treatment must be in line with the United Nations Minimum Rules for Treatment of the Offender or the Nelson Mandela rules.

The Nelson Mandela Rules: Protecting the Rights of Persons Deprived of Liberty

The Rules are based on an obligation to treat all prisoners with respect for their inherent dignity and value as human beings, and to prohibit torture and other forms of ill-treatment. The Nelson Mandela Rules emphasize that the provision of health care for prisoners is a State responsibility, and that the relationship between health-care professionals and prisoners is governed by the same ethical and professional standards as those applicable to patients in the community. Moreover, the Rules oblige prison health-care services to evaluate and care for the physical and mental health of prisoners, including those with special needs.

IRRP advocates the reintegration of offenders back to the society and create awareness on the importance of offender rehabilitation we also encourage the Nigerian Correctional Service on the need to improve upon its existing rehabilitation potentials and strategies to advocate for strict adherence to inmates rights and privileges.
